I neither believe the story narrated by Catherine, nor I believe what was written/published in the book by Nancy/Stephen; Wholly! This is a classic case of an unsolved mystery, murder/rape case; presented with a half-baked truth!
In the absence of Jonathan, we won’t be able to know, if Catherine is correct! In the absence of the camera footage, testimonies of witnesses at the restaurant, hotel, as how Jonathan and Catherine were behaving that day; we cannot know, if it was Jonathan who intruded Catherine’s room to blackmail or rape her; or, it was Catherine herself, who invited him with the keys being giving to him, after the lengthy discourse as what Jonathan ought to have done with the body of Kylie.
Nicolas didn’t even remember anything, despite being in the picture, witnessing a man with knife and threatening or raping Catherine. Understandable! If that was the case, or, was it otherwise, as the expressions in the pictures were indeed questionable! And mood swings can’t be answer to it.
But Catherine didn’t produce the full story either, which I absolutely doubt. She used the same tactics, which were used in writing/publishing the book by Nancy/Stephen, all under presumption/assumption, how the events ‘ought to have happened,’ without even going and discussing with the witnesses, how Jonathan or Catherine were behaving on the Beach or Restaurant or at Hotel. Means, no incidence of self-indulged cross-examination, and yet, you end up publishing a book, or even making a series. Am I wrong?
And whatever I’m stating above, ask any Top Solicitor, if I wrong in asking such questions. Of course, and if in case I’m wrong, thus requesting to correct me via email or comment, so that I can illuminate myself and remove this review. This is exactly what happened in Gone Girl, the half-baked stories narrated from both the sides. Or maybe, this is how, History Books were/are being Written, under presumptions / assumptions.
BTW, Nicolas hated his mother in any case, and an example of it was the way he talked to Catherine on phone, before even knowing about the reality of the book or Catherine; thus, pretending, what a shock it was for Nicolas, and then he started hating Catherine, is pretty exaggerating!
Of course, excellent cast, excellent acting, especially the scene in which Jonathan is trying to save Nicolas on the Beach, or, the end scene wherein, Stephen tries to execute Nicolas, but stops, were both intriguing, and, honestly, I didn’t move from my seat whilst watching these two intriguing scenes. It is both Stephen and Catherine, that made DISCLAIMER an excellent story to watch, rather read! And it is only because of Stephen and Catherine that DISCLAIMER is one of the best series I’ve watched in the present times.
All said and done, and if above of my questions are being answered, an Excellent Watch! 😊
