Instead of Barbie, or before watching Barbie, I suggest one should watch Episode Nosedive of the Black Mirror Series. One would then come to know, that it wasn’t / isn’t about the Gender Wars, but, the Social Media baloney buffoonery of the last decade and a half, their policies alike no. of click + followers == payback to users + paycheck to resident employees + revenue for the company, that actually crumbled the Internet, with the cherries on top of the cake being today’s modern liberal leftists & puffery Influencers.
One needs to understand, it isn’t about Barbie being feminine & Ken being muscular, as there’s nothing feminine or masculinity or mansplaining or womansplaining, when both are working under the same ceiling, and associated with the same kind of professions.
On one hand, Barbie wants everything, from femininity to her other half being associated with the best profession to she herself touching the career heights to luxury to love to pampering to affection; and that’s the problem with Barbie. She wants a four-legged horse life, which honestly, hardly few get. And on the other hand, there’s Ken, and Ken also wants the same thing what Barbie desires except in its more muscular form. Thus, it’s not about the clashes of genders; it’s about the clashes of desires.
And when you look at Women or Men working in the today’s pretentious empty Corporate world, one can find such foundation-less evolutionary traits thriving. I suggest, experience it atleast once in your life, and you would come to know what I’m talking about.
Barbie isn’t fascist, she just wants everything posh in her life; just alike Ken! A well-settled pampered life. Nothing wrong; but what happens when everyone becomes Barbie or Ken? Then, that you might experience in the movie only.
I’m again repeating, there’re real women victims' in real lives; women who want to unshackle their faces covered in veil, women who want to ditch child marriage, women who’re single & have to run their kitchen without any backing with no retirement support, women who once wanted to publish without using any pseudo names, women who want marriage rights by abolishing of polygamy, women who’re the sole bread winner of their families; and I’m sorry, Barbie isn’t one of them. Sorry! Nor so, men alike Ken.
Alas, the share of the real Women victims' usually are being taken by the likes of Barbie. And so goes for Ken, who doesn’t represent the real men, including in terms of masculinity.
I watched this flick just to do the comparative analysis as explained above.
All said & done, the flick wasn’t that appealing! My Apologies!
