Review of Dickenson (TV Series)

Tell the story but tell it slant,

As success sometimes in finale lies;

Even if beginning is filled with excessive brightness,

The epilogue can bring a superb surprise.

I watched the Dickenson series in the lockdown. Read poems of her, hence, wanted to experience her portrayed journey, alike of any other timeless poet(ess). This was encapsulated with the modern touch. Seems, the series must’ve been made keeping Gen Z and ultra Younger Millennials in mind. If not the Biography in its entirety, it seems; might be exploration of her Life via her writings in a more adaptive, transformative, modern & fictional format.

The journey of a poetess, her emancipation from relationship with Sue or Ben or Death beyond conservative values, yet remaining within it, to, conversations with life & death itself, to, writing as a soldier with pen in hands in a war torn nation, to, a desire not to be famous being a poet, the background music score whilst Sue & Emily is conversing, and on certain other occasions; was mesmerizing. The final episode, its background music score, featuring she going back into the depths, was endearing, that assembled & aligned the segregated dots of previous episodes.

She’s writing truth of the World rather writing to please the World, summed up the series. Age restricted, occasionally, but yes, one can watch; especially the overall aesthetics of the epilogue!
